We Love Mexican food,sometimes if I'm out of tortillas,I'll make my own ,they are easy to make.

Ingredients

  • - 2 c flour
  • - 1/2 t salt
  • - 1/4 t. baking powder
  • - 1/4 c shortening,margarine or butter
  • - 1/2 c warm water

How To Make patsy's homemade flour tortillas

  • Step 1
    Whisk the flour, salt, and baking powder together in a mixing bowl. Mix in the shortening with your fingers until the flour resembles cornmeal. Add the water and mix until the dough comes together; place on a lightly floured surface and knead 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp towel,let sit for 15-20 minutes . Divide the dough into small pieces for tacos or larger for burritos.Roll each piece into a ball. Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. I use a griddle Use a well-floured rolling pin to roll a dough ball into a thin, round tortilla. Place into the hot skillet, and cook until bubbly and golden; turn over and cook until on the other side. Place the cooked tortilla in a tortilla warmer or cover n dish towel; continue rolling and cooking the remaining dough.
