How To Make old-fashioned onion pie
-
Step 1Preheat the oven to 400F. Fry the bacon till crisp then drain on a paper towel. Remove most of the bacon grease from the skillet and add the chopped onions. Saute until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the caraway seeds, if using. Remove from skillet and let cool.
-
Step 2In a small bowl, whisk the eggs and sour cream. Whisk in the flour, salt and pepper.
-
Step 3Fit the pie crust into a 9 inch pie dish. Trim to allow a 1 inch overhang. Fold under and crimp the edges. Use a fork to prick a few holes in the bottom of the crust.
-
Step 4Crumble the bacon and spread it evenly over the pie shell. Add the onions and spread evenly. Pour the egg mixture over the onions. Bake for 15 minutes.
-
Step 5Reduce the oven temperature to 350F. Bake another 15 minutes, or until browned. Remove from oven. To serve, cut into wedges. It should be served while hot.
