Well it looks like the heat is not going away for a while here in PA. I didn't feel like heating up the kitchen so I thought I'd make grilled cheese sandwich. Had a few strips of bacon and one apple left along with a small bag of cheddar cheese. So I thought why not try something new. I thought it was a curious combination of sweet apple, smoky bacon and sharp cheese. So I put it together and tried it. WOW! It really was good. So I thought I'd share this to make enough for four. Oops! Forgot to take a picture. Will take one next time I make this for sure. I thought this was so good I made another one and took a picture this time.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 slices whole-grain bread
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 6 ounces shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 8 - strips of cooked bacon in your microwave (can pan fry if you wish)
  • 1 - granny smith apple, cored and sliced

How To Make my grilled cheese with apples and bacon

  • Step 1
Heat the butter in a large skillet or nonstick pan over low heat.
  • Step 2
Take four slices of bread and spread with mustard.
  • Step 3
Then divide the cheese, sliced apple, and bacon among them. (I cooked my bacon crisp in my microwave oven)
  • Step 4
Top with the other bread slices and add to hot pan.
  • Step 5
Cook these sandwiches slowly about 10 to 12 minutes until each side in deep brown and crunchy
  • Step 6
    * I'm thinking that maybe next time I'll add swiss cheese slices and caramelized onions. Maybe would taste like French onion soup on bread.
