molasses baked beans

This was my grandmother's recipe from the 1950s. Slow cooked, flavor infused beans, more like a main dish than a side dish. Excellent for family gatherings and pot lucks!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound ground beef
  • 32 ounces pork and beans
  • 16 ounces barbeque beans
  • 1 - medium onion, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
  • 5 slices bacon

How To Make molasses baked beans

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Step 2
    Stir fry ground beef just until browned; drain well.
  • Step 3
    Combine all ingredients except for the bacon. Mix well.
  • Step 4
    Pour into a 13x9x2 ovenproof baking dish and lay the bacon strips on the top.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.
