Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried white beans
  • 1 1/2 quarts water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 pound salted pork
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2 cups cooking liquid from beans
  • pinch thyme
  • pinch pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

How To Make maple syrup baked beans

  • Step 1
    Soak the dry beans in water overnight.
  • Step 2
    Drain the beans and rinse well in cold water.
  • Step 3
    Place the beans in a medium casserole, add 1-1/2 quarts water and salt. Bring to boil, cover and cook on medium for 30 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Drain the beans and save the cooking liquid.
  • Step 5
    Place the beans and salted pork in a bean pot or a cast iron casserole.
  • Step 6
    Mix 2 cups of reserve cooking liquid, 1/2 cup maple syrup, thyme, mustard and onion. Pour on top of beans, cover and cook for 6 hours at 250F.
  • Step 7
    Uncover, add the other 1/2 cup maple syrup and cook for 30 minutes.
