How to Make Maple Syrup Baked Beans
1Soak the dry beans in water overnight.
2Drain the beans and rinse well in cold water.
3Place the beans in a medium casserole, add 1-1/2 quarts water and salt. Bring to boil, cover and cook on medium for 30 minutes.
4Drain the beans and save the cooking liquid.
5Place the beans and salted pork in a bean pot or a cast iron casserole.
6Mix 2 cups of reserve cooking liquid, 1/2 cup maple syrup, thyme, mustard and onion. Pour on top of beans, cover and cook for 6 hours at 250F.
7Uncover, add the other 1/2 cup maple syrup and cook for 30 minutes.
