This is a rich, moist cornbread dressing. Who needs turkey? Just give me the dressing!!! This is my mother's recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 box
    cornbread mix, mixed according to the box
  • 6
    eggs
  • 2-3
    celery stalks, diced
  • 1 large
    onion, diced
  • INGREDIENTS FOR DRESSING

  • ·
    baked cornbread, cooled & crumbled
  • 1 pkg
    herb seasoned dressing mix
  • 1 can(s)
    cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can(s)
    cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can(s)
    chicken broth
  • 1 tsp
    poultry seasoning

How to Make Mama's Cornbread Dressing

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix the cornbread mix according to box directions, except increase the eggs to 6.
  2. Add the diced celery and onion to the cornbread batter.
  3. Bake at temperature suggested on the box in an iron skillet, if possible, until cornbread is golden brown and done in the middle (check by sticking a sharp knife into the center) Cornbread may be baked 2-3 days before dressing is to be made.
  4. Crumble cooled cornbread, and then add the remainder of the ingredients. Bake in a 350 degree oven until dressing is as done as YOU like it....about 30-45 minutes. Don't overcook or it will be dry.
