Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 - green onion with top, chopped
  • 1 - egg, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • - vegetable oil

How To Make hush puppies

  • Step 1
    Combine first 5 ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Step 2
    Add remaining ingredients; stir well.
  • Step 3
    Let batter stand 5 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Carefully drop batter by level tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil (370 degrees); cook only a few at a time, turning once.
  • Step 5
    Fry 3 to 5 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown.
  • Step 6
    Drain well on paper towels.
  • Step 7
    Yield: about 2 dozen.
