french chestnuts
1/3 c
salt to taste
pepper to taste
1 c
dry bread crumbs
1/2 c
milk, scalded
boiling water

How to Make Homestyle Chestnut Dressing


  • 1Pour boiling water over chestnuts and let stand 5 minutes; remove skin with fingers and a knife.
  • 2Cook nuts about 1/2 hour in boiling salted water.
  • 3Drain, mash and add butter and seasonings.
  • 4Pour milk over crumbs and add to nut mixture.
  • 5Mix well, stuff bird.
