On a whim I entered this recipe in the Whirlpool Spirit of Cooking Contest a few years ago on behalf of my church. The recipe won! It's been a hit since that time.

Ingredients

  • 4 can(s)
    vegetarian
  • 1 lb
    ground turkey or chicken
  • 1 medium
    chopped green pepper
  • 1 medium
    chopped onion
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar (more or less to taste)
  • 5 clove
    minced garlic
  • 2 1/2 c
    hickory flavored barbeque sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder
  • ·
    black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp
    ground red pepper (more or less to taste)

How to Make Heavenly Baked Beans

Step-by-Step

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook onion, green pepper, and garlic until translucent.
  2. Add ground turkey or chicken. Reduce heat to medium and cook, stirring occasionally until ground chicken is browned. Set aside.
  3. In a deep baking dish combine remaining ingredients with a few dashes of black and ground red pepper. Add browned ground chicken mixture and blend.
  4. Loosely cover and grill at 350 degrees for approximately 20-25 minutes or until well heated.
