  • 8 oz
    large elbow macaroni
  • 2 c
  • 3 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    black pepper
  • 1 dash(es)
    ground red pepper
  • 3 oz
    processed cheese, shredded (such as velveeta), about 3/4 cup
  • 2 1/2 oz
    extra-sharp cheddar cheese, shredded, about 2/3 cup
  • 1/2 c
    gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 c
    parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 tsp
    kosher salt
  • ·
    cooking spray
  • 1/4 c
    fresh breadcrumbs

How to Make Easy Stovetop Mac and Cheese


  1. Preheat broiler to high.
  2. Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain.
  3. While the pasta cooks, combine milk, flour, and peppers in a large saucepan, stirring with a whisk. Brink to a boil; cook for 4 minutes or until thick. Remove from the heat.
  4. Add the cheeses and salt to the milk mixture. Stir until smooth. Add the pasta, and stir to coat.
  5. Spoon the mixture into a glass or ceramic baking dish coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top; broil for 2 minutes or until browned.
