easy stovetop mac and cheese

I usually skip the breadcrumbs and broiling, and just serve it straight from the mixing pot!!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces large elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 dash ground red pepper
  • 3 ounces processed cheese, shredded (such as velveeta), about 3/4 cup
  • 2 1/2 ounces extra-sharp cheddar cheese, shredded, about 2/3 cup
  • 1/2 cup gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • - cooking spray
  • 1/4 cup fresh breadcrumbs

How To Make easy stovetop mac and cheese

  • Step 1
    Preheat broiler to high.
  • Step 2
    Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain.
  • Step 3
    While the pasta cooks, combine milk, flour, and peppers in a large saucepan, stirring with a whisk. Brink to a boil; cook for 4 minutes or until thick. Remove from the heat.
  • Step 4
    Add the cheeses and salt to the milk mixture. Stir until smooth. Add the pasta, and stir to coat.
  • Step 5
    Spoon the mixture into a glass or ceramic baking dish coated with cooking spray. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top; broil for 2 minutes or until browned.
