This is a quick and easy side dish for any Latin meal. I don't really measure - just use everything to taste. However, since you'll be cooking this down a little bit, try not to use salted beans, as they might end up too salty.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons onion, minced
- 1 can low-salt black beans, undrained
- kosher salt, to taste
- freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- sour cream, chopped cilantro - optional
- grated cotija or parmesan cheese, optional
How To Make easy savory black beans

Step 1Heat oil in a small saucepan. Add the garlic and onion. Cook, stirring frequently until the onion is translucent. Don't let the garlic burn.

Step 2Add the can of black beans, including the liquid. Let simmer for a few minutes, then add salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3Serve in small bowls. Top with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of cilantro and cotija cheese, if desired.
