Married to a Southerner, I had to come up with a good grits recipe..this is the one he loves the most. It's so creamy and cheesy..yum!!

prep time 5 Min
cook time 20 Min
method Stove Top
yield 8- we like extra for leftovers

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups quick cooking grits
  • 5 1/3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cubed
  • 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

How To Make cheesy grits

  • Step 1
    Get your ingredients together
  • Step 2
On med-high heat; bring water and salt to a boil
  • Step 3
Add grits slowly, stir constantly as not to clump or stick. Reduce the heat to low; cover and cook for 20-25 minutes till desired consistency. Stir every 3-4 min so not to stick.
  • Step 4
When cooked to desired creaminess; add the cream cheese and butter, stir until well blended.
  • Step 5
Now add the cheese, and stir until completely melted and blended.
  • Step 6
These are so creamy and cheesy!..ENJOY My kids like the leftovers for breakfast w/ bacon crumbled in. Add a little water as these will be thick, heat in a saucepan on low or in the microwave for approx. 1 min, stir and check temp, may need to add a few more seconds.
