Ingredients
- 3 3/4 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup regular grits, uncooked
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded, divided
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 large egg, beaten
How To Make cheese grits

Step 1Combine the water and the salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Stir in the grits; cover and reduce the heat. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 2Add 1 1/2 cups cheese and the butter to the grits, stirring until the cheese and butter melts.

Step 3Gradually stir a small amount of the hot mixture into the beaten egg. Add to the remaining hot mixture.

Step 4Pour into a greased casserole dish and bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the grits. Bake an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese melts. If you like spice sprinkle a little cayenne on top or serve with hot sauce.
