calico beans
My hobby is collecting vintage recipes. I've been doing it for several years now and I have over 200...some from 1930. This recipe was in my collection. I've seen adaptations of it, people adding and deleting as the years have gone on. But, I stay with the original recipe. These beans are a meal in itself which is probably what the original cooks used them for. I use Open Pit Barbecue sauce because it has all the ingredients from the past but just more convenient to use.

How To Make calico beans
-
Step 1In a large skillet, cook bacon, beef, and onion until browned. Transfer to a large bowl. Do not drain. Add remaining ingredients and stir well. Turn out into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake 350 degrees for 50 minutes...until bubbly.

Step 2NOTE: Easily doubled. However, just add 1T more of molasses and prepared mustard instead of doubling those. Use a lasagna pan which holds a doubled recipe nicely.
