This has been handed down from my grandma. She was such an awesome cook. I loved to help her and learned so much from her. So very good flavor, and old fashioned goodness.

5 lb. Chicken


  • 3 Tbsp
    chopped onion
  • 1/4 c
  • 4 c
    dry bread crumbs ( about 7 slices)
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground sage
  • 2-4 Tbsp
    water or chicken broth

How to Make Bread Stuffing


  1. Cook onion in butter.
  2. Combine with bread crumbs and seasonings.
  3. Toss with enough liquid to moisten crumbs.
  4. If you want to stuff the bird, do so at this time. I like to put mine in a jelly roll pan and brown the crumbs under the broiler first.
  5. Makes enough to stuff a 5 lb. chicken. For a 10 lb turkey, you will need to double the recipe.
