This is a fav I keep going back to time and time again....delicious with just about anything, great on burgers, sandwiches or just on the side!!

yield makes 6 - 7 pints

Ingredients

  • 16 cups unpeeled, regular cucumbers sliced thin
  • 6 medium onions sliced thin
  • 1 large red pepper seeded and slivered
  • 1 large green pepper, seeded and sliverd...this time i opted for 3 jalapeno peppers
  • 1/2 cup coarse pickling salt
  • 5 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard seed
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
  • 3 cups white vinegar

How To Make bread & butter pickles

  • Step 1
    Place sliced cucumbers, onions and peppers in a large non metal bowl. Sprinkle the salt over top and mix. Cover and leave on your counter for 3 hours. After 3 hours drain well. Mix together the last 5 ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until sugar is dissolved. Add all the cuke mixture and bring to a boil. Ladle into hot sterilized jars filling to within 1 inch of top. pour the syrup from pot over the pickles.Seal
