The use of bacon fat in this recipe is essential - would be flat without it. You can make those canned generic beans become 'special' with these additions. I am always asked to bring these to a barbecue. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 2 cans pork and beans
- 1/2 large yellow onion
- 1/5 pound bacon
- 2 tablespoons liquid hickory smoke
- 6 tablespoons brown sugar, firmly packed
How To Make barbecue beans

Step 1Cut bacon into little pieces and saute until lightly browned. Do Not discard grease.

Step 2Dice onion and add to pan with bacon and fat. Saute lightly until onions are translucent, but not browned.

Step 3Add the beans, the brown sugar and liquid smoke to pot. Stir to combine. Let cook over medium low fire for about 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy.
