my brother-in-law made this recipe one year for christmas and we all loved it. Now it's just a given for us to have it for thanksgiving and christmas. it's almost a meal in itself.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag - pepperidge farm stuffing mix (original)
  • 1 package jimmy dean sausage
  • 1/2 - 1 pounds shitake mushrooms
  • 3 large granny smith apples (chopped)
  • 3 sticks celery (chopped)
  • 1/2 - onion (diced)
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 2 cans chicken broth, low salt

How To Make apple stuffing

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking dish. Sauté onion and celery with sausage until soft. Add chopped mushrooms and apples. Mix together with Pepperridge Farm stuffing mix in a large bowl and add 2 cans of chicken broth and 1 stick of melted butter. If stuffing seems dry, you can add 1 more can of chicken broth. Pour Stuffing mixture into baking dish and bake for 45 minutes to an hour or until the top is brown and crisp
