Makes 10 to 12 patties
Ingredients
- 1 cup unbleached white flour
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal
- 2 cups chopped white onion
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
How To Make amish onion patties

Step 1In a large mixing bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper.

Step 2Add chopped onions, tossing with a fork to coat well with flour mixture.

Step 3Make a well, pour in milk and stir to just combined.

Step 4Add oil to a large skillet and heat to medium high.

Step 5Drop batter by 1/4 cup into hot oil, cooking for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 6Carefully turn patties and cook for another 2 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 7Drain patties on a wire rack, lightly salt, repeat above steps cooking the remaining batter.

Step 8Serve hot with options like ketchup, salsa, ranch dressing or do what I do, put it on my burger.
