Ingredients

  • 3 - green tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 2 cups canola oil

How To Make fried green tomatoes

  • Step 1
    Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into approximately 1/4 inch slices.
  • Step 2
    Combine 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/teaspoon black pepper, 1 tablespoon flour with buttermilk. Mix well.
  • Step 3
    Place tomato slices in this mixture.
  • Step 4
    Combine the remaining salt, black pepper, flour, and cornmeal in a separate bowl.
  • Step 5
    Heat the canola oil to 350 degrees in a heavy skillet.
  • Step 6
    Coat the tomato slices on each side in the flour mixture. Drop into hot oil. Cook until crisp and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately.
