8 large
tart apples - cored, sliced (granny smith)
1/4 c
bacon drippings or butter
1-1/2 tsp
fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 c
dark brown sugar (packed)
1/8 tsp
kosher salt
1-1/2 tsp
ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp
freshly ground nutmeg

How to Make Fried Apples


  • 1In a large cast iron deep skillet, melt bacon drippings or butter
  • 2Layer prepared apples evenly over skillet bottom.
  • 3Sprinkle lemon juice over them, add brown sugar and salt.
  • 4Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes until apples are tender.
  • 5Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • 6Stir in spices and enjoy
  • 7Note: Crumble crisp bacon over apples as a garnish when serving.
