Apple season is upon us. Turn those fresh,juicy gems into the best Fried Apples you have ever tasted. Quick & easy with a short ingredient list. I have been making these since 1948 when my mom taught me to do them.

Ingredients

  • 8 large tart apples - cored, sliced (granny smith)
  • 1/4 cup bacon drippings or butter
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg

How To Make fried apples

  • Step 1
    In a large cast iron deep skillet, melt bacon drippings or butter
  • Step 2
    Layer prepared apples evenly over skillet bottom.
  • Step 3
    Sprinkle lemon juice over them, add brown sugar and salt.
  • Step 4
    Cover and cook over low heat for 15 minutes until apples are tender.
  • Step 5
    Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Step 6
    Stir in spices and enjoy
  • Step 7
    Note: Crumble crisp bacon over apples as a garnish when serving.
