This was my Scottish grandmother's recipe. It was a favorite growing up that my Mom would serve with ham, turkey, or pork. My brothers & I loved it on a leftover ham or turkey sandwich. You can adjust the heat (cayenne pepper) to your taste.

  • 6-8 large
    apples, cored, peeled, sliced
  • 1 1/2 c
    cider vinegar
  • 2 medium
    onions, chopped
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    cayenne pepper (adjust for taste)
  • 1 c
    brown sugar (i prefer dark brown)

How to Make Apple Chutney


  1. In large saucepan over medium heat, place apples & vinegar. Cook apples down. Add remaining ingredients and sImmer for 30 minutes. Place in air tight containers , keep refrigerated. I suppose you could can these as well, I just never have done that. This keeps well for several months in the fridge.
