Sausage and Pepper Sandwiches

INGREDIENTS
5 – 6 Italian sausage links (about 1 1/4 – 1 1/2 pounds)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 large or 2 small onions, sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
3/4 teaspoon dried basil
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
3/4 cup beef broth
1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes with juice
1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
4 crusty rolls or 1 large baguette cut into 4 portions
