I found this recipe in a book I got at the library , The History of Food, and I thought it was very interesting. The recipe is from 1918.

Ingredients
- 1 pound butter, soft
- 2 cups cream
- 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin
How To Make war butter

Step 1Cream butter with a fork.

Step 2Use 2T of the cream to soak the gelatin.

Step 3Heat the rest of the cream in a saucepan. Pour the warm cream over soaked gelatin and stir well.

Step 4Beat cream mixture into butter and salt to taste.

Step 5Pour into a bowl and refrigerate until hard.
