I found this recipe in a book I got at the library , The History of Food, and I thought it was very interesting. The recipe is from 1918.

How to Make War Butter

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream butter with a fork.
  2. Use 2T of the cream to soak the gelatin.
  3. Heat the rest of the cream in a saucepan. Pour the warm cream over soaked gelatin and stir well.
  4. Beat cream mixture into butter and salt to taste.
  5. Pour into a bowl and refrigerate until hard.
