Lois's French Onion Dip

My good friend brought this dip for brunch today,it is delicious! She served it with potato chips,I liked it better with vegetables because it was less salty. Really good!

2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large onion,finely diced
1 teaspoon salt
1 garlic clove,minced
2 teaspoon worstershire sauce
1 1/4 c sour cream
1/4 c mayonnaise
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and salt and cook, stirring often, until soft and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat. Add the Worcestershire sauce and stir to scrape up the browned bits from the pan . Place the onion in a small bowl and let cool to room temperature.
In a bowl, stir together the remaining ingredients. Add the onion. Cover and chill at least 30 minutes.
