spice essentials: ancho chili mix

This is a spicy version of a South-of-the-Border chili spice mix. It gets its heat from the ancho chili powder, and the cayenne. In addition, I use a hot brand of paprika. You can, of course, adjust those seasonings to your own tastes. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients For spice essentials: ancho chili mix

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 4 Tbsp
    ancho chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    dehydrated onions, coarsely ground
  • 2 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1 tsp
    ground coriander
  • 1 tsp
    paprika, sweet or hot, your choice
  • 1 tsp
    mustard powder, i prefer coleman’s
  • 1 tsp
    coconut sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt, kosher variety, or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp
    garlic salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    cayenne pepper

How To Make spice essentials: ancho chili mix

    You will need a good container with a lid to properly store this spice.

    Gather your ingredients (mise en place).

    Combine the spice ingredients together, and store as you would any other spice; in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.

    Assuming the spices you made it from are fresh, it should last from 6 – 8 months.
