I have 2 recipes for homemade taco seasoning. I call this one my Master Mix because this is the one I use the most and usually make a large batch of it. My family loves Mexican and Tex-Mex.....but they don't like it spicy. This recipe uses flour as a filler that makes it thicker, less spicy, and closer to the commercial brands. I use my other version just for me because I like spicy and it doesn't have the filler. I've also included the proportions to make 10 times the mix if anyone is interested. But mostly......it's for my own convenience. lol.

Ingredients For my master mix taco seasoning

2 Tbspflour

2 tspchili powder

1 tsppaprika

1 tspsalt

1/2 tspcumin

1 tspdry minced onion

1/4 tsponion powder

1/4 tspcayenne

1/4 tspgarlic powder

1/4 tspsugar

1/8 tspground oregano
- LARGE BATCH: (MAKES THE EQUIVALENT OF 10 ENVELOPES)

20 Tbspflour, (2 cups)

20 tspchili powder, (1/2 cup)

10 tsppaprika, (1/4 cup)

10 tspsalt, (1/4 cup)

5 tspcumin

10 tspdry minced onion, (1/4 cup)

2 1/2 tsponion powder

2 1/2 tspcayenne

2 1/2 tspgarlic powder

2 1/2 tspsugar

1 1/4 tspground oregano
How To Make my master mix taco seasoning

1Combine all ingredients. Mix well. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid in a cool, dry place for up to about 6 months.

2Makes about 1/2 cup. The large batch makes approximately 3 1/2 cups and fills up a cleaned prego jar. 2 tablespoons of this mix is the equivalent of one (1.25 oz. envelope of purchased mix)

3To use: Use in place a an envelope of purchased seasoning.

4Or use to flavor ground beef. Combine 2 tablespoons seasoning mixture with 1 pound cooked and drained ground beef and 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
