My husband loves to experiment in the kitchen with a few things. BBQ is one of them. I finally got him to measure and write down his recipe for homemade BBQ sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 large
    yellow onion, chopped
  • 3
    green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    Vlasic hot pepper rings, chopped and 2 tablespoons juice
  • 2 bottle
    Kraft hickory smoke bbq sauce
  • 1 3/4 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    French's prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 2 tsp
    ground black pepper
  • 4 tsp
    tabasco sauce
  • 8 oz
    honey

How to Make Dad's BBQ Sauce

Step-by-Step

  1. In a deep saucepan, sauté both types of onions in a little olive oil until tender over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower heat to medium-low and continue to simmer until mixture has thickened, about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Keep refrigerated.
