This is one delicious sauce, that I've been making since a teenager...give it a try sometime...if you don't like heat, just leave out the cayenne...so good! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 - onion, chopped fine
  • 1 small green pepper, minced - optional - i don't always use
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • pinch - cinnamon & ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 1/4 tablespoons cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small can, tomato paste

How To Make ~ hot dog sauce ~ cassie's

  • Step 1
In a small skillet, saute onions and garlic in oil until just staring to brown. Set aside. In a large bowl add the ground beef and cumin, chili powder, cinnamon, cloves, cayenne, salt, pepper. Add 2 cups of water and mix all together until ground beef is small pieces and spices are thoroughly blended. ( i use my hands; it's easier to get the ground beef to the right consistency...you don't want any large pieces remaining.)
  • Step 2
Add the burger mixture to a 2 quart dutch oven; stir in the onion mixture. Now, stir in tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire Sauce, ketchup and remaining 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Remain simmering for 1 1/2 - 2 hours; stirring occasionally until desired thickness is reached. I usually cook mine for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Step 3
Enjoy with your favorite chili dog condiments..
