This is a thin BBQ sauce we use on our chicken or pork at times. I like doubling the recipe so I'll always have it on hand. It's also a good base to make sticky sauce for grilled chicken when we prefer something a little different. 7/21/14

prep time 10 Min
cook time 30 Min
method Stove Top
yield About 2 1/4 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon dry mustard
  • - salt & pepper, to taste

How To Make bea's thin bbq sauce

  • Step 1
Add all ingredients to a saucepan as listed. Slowly bring to a boil on medium heat then decrease heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes or so. As far as the vinegar, I use either apple cider or white.
  • Step 2
I have been told that it doesn't require refrigeration but I store mine in the fridge. It lasts indefinitely.
  • Step 3
NOTE: When I want a sticky sauce I simply add about 3 TBSP of honey, about 1/4 cup corn syrup, about 2/3 cup catchup and about 1/4 cup butter to 1 cup of the above recipe. All of these ingredients are approximate amounts.
