Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pinches ground black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour

How To Make mom's traditional enchilada sauce

  • Step 1
    In a low heat setting place sauce pan on burner. Add oil, chili powder, cumin, and garlic to pan and cook for 3 minutes. This will release the spice flavors.
  • Step 2
    Add 1 1/2 cups of water to the pan and stir.
  • Step 3
    Boil for 5 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Lower heat and simmer. While simmering, make a rue with flour and water. Add Rue to desired sauce thickness. Simmer for an additional 7 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Remove from heat and pour over your prepared enchiladas.
