6 Tbspall purpose flour
6 Tbspbacon grease, or sausage pan drippings
1/4 tspground black pepper
1/2 lbcooked & crumbled bulk pork sausage, bacon or ground beef or sliced & fried chipped beef (optional)
How to Make Country Gravy
- Melt grease or use pan drippings in a deep iron skillet or heavy sauce pan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbly.
- Stir in salt, sugar and pepper.
- Stir in cooked and crumbled meat or sliced chipped beef or bacon if desired.
