You can make this plain for potatoes & fried chicken cutlets, or country fried steak. Mix with sausage for biscuits and gravy, or sliced, fried chipped beef over toast, or you can mix it with a pound of hamburger and serve it over any of the above. Lets face it, this stuff is good on just about everything!

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons bacon grease, or sausage pan drippings
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 pound cooked & crumbled bulk pork sausage, bacon or ground beef or sliced & fried chipped beef (optional)

How To Make country gravy

  • Step 1
    Melt grease or use pan drippings in a deep iron skillet or heavy sauce pan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  • Step 2
    Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbly.
  • Step 3
    Stir in salt, sugar and pepper.
  • Step 4
    Stir in cooked and crumbled meat or sliced chipped beef or bacon if desired.
