Ingredients

  • 5 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 quart tomato juice
  • 3 large sweet onions, chopped
  • 8-10 medium jalapeno peppers, fresh, chopped
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 large green bell pepper, finely chopped

How To Make padre picante' sauce

  • Step 1
    all veggies chopped; place all in a large, heavy pot. cook slowly for 1.5 hours; uncovered until cooked down and thickened.
  • Step 2
    Once thickened, allow to cool. put in to pint jars and refrigerate. makes 5 - 6 pints.
  • Step 3
    Adjust how spicy by the number of jalapeno peppers and how many pepper seeds. (i seed about half the peppers). Can add more chopped onions for chunky sauce.
