Versatile Homemade Ketchup

Andy Anderson !

Okay, this may seem like a lot of time to spend on making ketchup; however, the time spent is well worth the flavor you get on the other side. Plus, since you’re making it from scratch, you can vary the ingredients to suit the occasion. But more on that later.

HINT: This makes an excellent gift during the holidays.

So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

How to Make Versatile Homemade Ketchup

  2. Gather your ingredients.
This ketchup can be used in a variety of ways, let’s explore some.
  4. ALL-PURPOSE: Make exactly as directed, and use it on just about anything that you would use regular ketchup. Excellent on french fries, and veggies.
  5. FISH: Increase the apple cider vinegar to 3/4 cup, and add about a tablespoon of finely chopped dill.
  6. SEAFOOD: Make as you would for fish; however, add about a tablespoon of horseradish sauce.
  7. Add the olive oil to a pan over medium heat, and then add the diced onions.
  8. Sauté until the onions are beginning to soften, and slightly brown, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  9. Add the garlic, and continue to sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  10. Add the remainder of the ingredients to the saucepan.
  11. Stir and combine until, the mixture begins to simmer.
  12. Add to the bowl of your slow cooker.
  13. Cook on low for six hours.
  15. Chef’s Note: For a smoother ketchup, remove from the slow cooker after six hours, and blend in a food processor, or blender until the mixture is nice and smooth.
  16. Store in tightly covered jars in the refrigerator, until ready to use. Enjoy.
  17. Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
