Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 - minced garlic clove
  • 28 ounces tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • - salt to taste
  • 1/3 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

How To Make tomato sauce with ground beef

  • Step 1
    Heat oil in a large heavy saucepan; add onion; saute over low heat, stirring, until tender and golden, about 5 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add the garlic; saute 1 minute.
  • Step 3
    Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a skillet, stirring to crumble meat; drain off fat; add to the onion mixture.
  • Step 4
    Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, 1 tomato sauce can filled with water, the tomato paste, parsley, 1 teaspoon salt, the basil, oregano, pepper and bay leaf.
  • Step 5
    Heat over medium-low heat to simmering.
  • Step 6
    Simmer, uncovered, over low heat, stirring occasionally until sauce is thickened and flavorful, about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
