tomato basil sauce

This is a recipe I got from a foodie friend named Elisha. I tried it about 2 years ago and have used it ever since! Its the best marinara sauce I've ever tried! And its so quick and easy to make! I added my photo!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, extra virgin
  • 4 - shallots-chopped finely
  • 2 cloves - garlic-chopped finely
  • 1- 14 oz. cans tomatoes- i use plum, peeled
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 8 - fresh basil leaves-shredded
  • - salt & pepper to taste

How To Make tomato basil sauce

  • Step 1
    heat the oil in a heavy-bottom pan.
  • Step 2
    add the shallots, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes,til softened
  • Step 3
    add all the garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  • Step 4
    add the tomatoes, juice and all, and break them up with wooden spoon.
  • Step 5
    stir in the sugar and season to taste with the salt and pepper.
  • Step 6
    bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, until thickened.
  • Step 7
    stir in the basil leaves and simmer about 10 more minutes. Then serve and enjoy!
