So I got really picky about m spaghetti sauce as I started getting older. I wouldn't touch canned/jarred sauce for anything and my mom put weird stuff in hers...so finally I came up with this recipe of my own...and I hate to toot m own horn, but I honestly have only tasted one other sauce that is better than this.

prep time 1 Hr
cook time 1 Hr
method ---
yield 4-6 with leftovers

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound bulk italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, diced (if you dont like your sauce bell peppery...omit this item)
  • 2 small yellow chilies, diced (if you want it spicy...if not...omit this)
  • 4 cloves minced garlic *
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper *
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder *
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning *
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes * (if you like spicy...if not...omit)
  • 1 pinch dried spearmint *
  • 1 tablespoon knorr chicken bouillon *
  • 1 small can of italian style stewed tomatoes
  • 1 large can stewed diced tomatoes
  • 1 medium can tomato paste
  • 1 large can tomato or vegetable juice
  • 1 small can sliced black olives

How To Make the best spaghetti sauce

  • Step 1
in a big pot heat enough oil(olive, canola or vegetable) to coat bottom of pan and sauté the onions and bell pepper until translucent. (if going spicy do the yellow chilies with this step also)
  • Step 2
add beef and sausage and brown thoroughly, and drain grease off
  • Step 3
add cans of stewed tomatoes and all ingredients marked with the * and the tomato paste and combine well
  • Step 4
add remaining ingredients and bring to simmer. Cover and allow to simmer for at least 1 hour. (at this point you could transfer it to a crock pot and cover and let go on low all day if you like)
  • Step 5
serve with your favorite pasta and bread and you are good to go!
