~ sweet & tart rhubarb sauce ~

As a child, there was always a bowl of this sauce on my Grams table. It's great as a spread or thin out for a sauce on ice cream...Yum!

yield 2 cups

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rhubarb, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1/3 cup sugar or to taste
  • 4 - 5 tablespoons water
  • 5 - drops, red food coloring - optional

How To Make ~ sweet & tart rhubarb sauce ~

  • Step 1
    In a medium saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Stir and cook until tender. Taste and adjust sugar to taste. Add more water if desiring a thinner consistency. This is a great spread for bread, ice cream topping, etc. was a staple in my home as a child. Yum!
