splendid saucy pizza sauce
Why buy it in a jar or can when it doesn't taste as good as what you can make at home for pennies and in about 15 minutes? Try this sauce with my best ever pizza dough also found on this site, and add the toppings you desire. Never eat frozen or pizzaria pizza again! yield
2 medium pizzas
Ingredients
- 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced onion
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon fresh, flat-leaf parsley
How To Make splendid saucy pizza sauce
-
Step 1Place all together in a small sauce pan. I micro-plane the garlic and use a large grater to grate the onion. Basically I want them to "disappear".
-
Step 2Cook on a very low simmer with the pan cover ajar to let the steam escape. Let it bubble until it reaches the consistency you wish. Somewhere between the sauce and paste. Let cool down before topping the dough.
-
Step 3NOTE: this recipe makes about a 1/2 cup more than I use on "jelly-roll" sized pizza. I place the unused portion in the freezer, and add to it. By the third time of pizza making I have enough to just thaw and use without making another batch.
