If you think you've had good BBQ sauce, well, try this and you may just change your mind. And, when you prepare it, somehow it's just better.

yield 5 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup onions, vidalia, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice, fresh
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, fine ground
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

How To Make smokr's homemade bar-b-q sauce

  • Step 1
Put the finely chopped onion and butter in a skillet and brown the vidalia.
  • Step 2
While the onion is browning, mix all remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  • Step 3
After the onion is browned, add the remaining ingredients to the browned onion. Saute the mixture on "low" heat for 20 minutes.
  • Step 4
Lastly, as the sauce simmers, you can taste test to see if you prefer more "cayenne pepper." I usually use 1/2 tsp or a smidge more for my personal taste.
