yield 1 cup(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup shallots, finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup dry red wine
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot paprika
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)
  • 1/4 cup 35% heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch mixed with 1/3 cup cold water

How To Make red wine cream sauce

  • Step 1
In a skillet over medium-high heat, add butter and when it starts sizzling, add shallots; sauté for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
  • Step 2
Add red wine, beef broth, hot paprika, and freshly ground black pepper. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce to medium heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
Stir in heavy cream and increase the heat back to high. When it starts boiling, pour in the corn starch mixture and stir until the sauce thickens, about 45 seconds.
  • Step 4
Serve immediately or move to the back burner and keep warm until needed.
