Ingredients

  • 6-8 - italian sausage links
  • 1-2 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large onions
  • 5-6 - cloves garlic
  • 2 cans tomato paste, 6 ounces each
  • 4 cans tomato sauce, 15 ounces each
  • 2 tablespoons sweet basil
  • 2 tablespoons italian seasoning
  • 3 tablespoons parsley
  • 1-2 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

How To Make mom's spaghetti sauce

  • Step 1
    You may make this sauce with meat or with sausage or both.
  • Step 2
    For SAUSAGE start like this; In your pot, brown sausages very well and remove from pot.
  • Step 3
    Add 1/4 cup of oil to pot, then the two large onions diced fine (not minced), and then add five to six cloves of minced garlic (or to your taste) to oil dripping and the onion.
  • Step 4
    Very, very slowly brown onions stirring often.
  • Step 5
    Do not let it burn or the sauce will taste burned.
  • Step 6
    For MEAT start like this; Add 1/4 cup of oil to pot, then the two large onions diced fine (not minced), and then add five to six cloves of minced garlic (or to your taste) to oil dripping and the onion.

    Very, very slowly brown onions stirring often.
  • Step 8
    Do not let it burn or the sauce will taste burned.
  • Step 9
    Add your meat and brown, breaking up the meat into the size you want to eat.
  • Step 10
    Continue here; Then to your pot add the two cans of tomato paste, and the four cans of tomato sauce.
  • Step 11
    Fill paste can (just one paste can) with water and rinse out both paste cans.
  • Step 12
    Add to pot.
  • Step 13
    Fill sauce can (just one sauce can) with water and rinse out all four sauce cans.
  • Step 14
    Add to pot.
  • Step 15
    STIR.
  • Step 16
    If you cooked the sausages replace them into the sauce now.
  • Step 17
    Add sweet basil, Italian seasoning and parsley.
  • Step 18
    STIR.
  • Step 19
    Add black pepper and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of salt.

    STIR and TASTE.
  • Step 21
    Add more salt if you would like.
  • Step 22
    Bring to a boil (uncovered) then turn down the heat and simmer for about 4 hours or until you can\'t wait any longer.
  • Step 23
    It\'s best to cook the sauce for at least 2 hours to get the flavors to start to blend.
  • Step 24
    Stir every 30 minutes or so.
