mom's best barbeque sauce

This sauce is really good on ribs or chicken. I don't like liquid smoke myself so I never add it to the sauce. It keeps really well in the fridge for a long time. Similar to Kansas City BBQ sauce - spicy and a bit sweet. You can adjust the heat to your taste by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne pepper.

Ingredients For mom's best barbeque sauce

1/4 ccider vinegar

1/2 cwater

2 Tbspsugar

1 Tbspprepared mustard

1/2 tspground black pepper

1/4 tspcayenne pepper

2 Tbsplemon juice

1peeled and thinly sliced medium onion (i sometimes use 1 tbsp. dried, minced onion instead)

1/4 cbutter

1/2 ctomato catsup
-
2 Tbspworcestershire sauce

1/2 tspliquid smoke flavoring (optional)

1Mix first 10 ingredients in a saucepan.

2Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.

3Add remaining ingredients and heat to boiling.

4Can be cooled and kept in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks until ready to use.
