mom's best barbeque sauce
This sauce is really good on ribs or chicken. I don't like liquid smoke myself so I never add it to the sauce. It keeps really well in the fridge for a long time. Similar to Kansas City BBQ sauce - spicy and a bit sweet. You can adjust the heat to your taste by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne pepper.

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 - peeled and thinly sliced medium onion (i sometimes use 1 tbsp. dried, minced onion instead)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup tomato catsup
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring (optional)

Step 1Mix first 10 ingredients in a saucepan.

Step 2Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.

Step 3Add remaining ingredients and heat to boiling.

Step 4Can be cooled and kept in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks until ready to use.
