Mom's Best Barbeque Sauce

This sauce is really good on ribs or chicken. I don't like liquid smoke myself so I never add it to the sauce. It keeps really well in the fridge for a long time.

Similar to Kansas City BBQ sauce - spicy and a bit sweet.

You can adjust the heat to your taste by increasing or decreasing the amount of cayenne pepper.

cider vinegar
1/2 c
2 Tbsp
1 Tbsp
prepared mustard
1/2 tsp
ground black pepper
1/4 tsp
cayenne pepper
2 Tbsp
lemon juice
peeled and thinly sliced medium onion (i sometimes use 1 tbsp. dried, minced onion instead)
1/4 c
1/2 c
tomato catsup
2 Tbsp
worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp
liquid smoke flavoring (optional)

How to Make Mom's Best Barbeque Sauce


  • 1Mix first 10 ingredients in a saucepan.
  • 2Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
  • 3Add remaining ingredients and heat to boiling.
  • 4Can be cooled and kept in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks until ready to use.
