Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    olive oil
  • 3
    onions, thinly sliced
  • 2
    celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 tsp
    oregano
  • 1 tsp
    basil
  • 1 tsp
    thyme
  • 8 large
    tomatoes, quartered
  • ·
    "just a pinch" of salt
  • ·
    "just a pinch" of pepper
  • 1/2 tsp
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    tomato paste
  • 1/4 lb
    mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/3 c
    white wine, dry

How to Make Marinara Sauce

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat olive oil in heavy skillet.
  2. Saute onions gently until tender and transparent, about 10 minutes.
  3. Add celery and herbs; cook 5 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes. Stir in salt, pepper, sugar and tomato paste.
  5. Bring to boil and stir.
  6. Simmer 35 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add mushrooms and white wine.
  8. Continue to cook until sauce is thick, about 15-20 minutes.
