Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 - onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 - celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 8 large tomatoes, quartered
  • - "just a pinch" of salt
  • - "just a pinch" of pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1/4 pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/3 cup white wine, dry

How To Make marinara sauce

  • Step 1
    Heat olive oil in heavy skillet.
  • Step 2
    Saute onions gently until tender and transparent, about 10 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add celery and herbs; cook 5 minutes.
  • Step 4
    Add tomatoes. Stir in salt, pepper, sugar and tomato paste.
  • Step 5
    Bring to boil and stir.
  • Step 6
    Simmer 35 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 7
    Add mushrooms and white wine.
  • Step 8
    Continue to cook until sauce is thick, about 15-20 minutes.
