This is the sauce I serve with cheese sticks or bread as an appetizer at parties.

  • 2 clove
    garlic, lightly mashed
  • 1/4 c
    olive oil
  • 2 lb
    ripe plum tomatoes
  • 8-10
    fresh basil leaves, torn in pieces
  • to taste

How to Make Marinara Sauce


  1. Peel, seed and chop the tomatoes
  2. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the garlic until golden (about 4 minutes). Press occasionally with the back of a spoon.
  3. Add the tomatoes and salt.
  4. Bring to a simmer
  5. Cook, stirring often, until the sauce is thick. (About 15-20 minutes.
  6. Stir in the basil leaves and cook for 2 minutes more,
  7. Serve over pasta or as a dipping sauce for bread or cheese sticks.
