I got this sauce after watching a niece make it for three years for our family reunion. I helped her make it each time but she was reluctant to give me the recipe. So, I kinda 'borrowed' it when she wasn't looking!

yield MANY, it makes about 3 gallons

Ingredients

  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 8 ounces lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 gallons dark apple cider vinegar
  • 1 pound yellow mustard
  • 4 pounds light brown sugar
  • - salt to taste
  • 32 ounces ketchup
  • 32 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 24 ounces pancake syrup
  • - crushed red pepper
  • - ground red pepper
  • - chili powder
  • - cayenne pepper

How To Make joy's borrowed bbq sauce

  • Step 1
Mix all ingredients into a large stock pot. Heat until boiling. Use to baste onto BBQ while cooking. Can also be used to add to BBQ sandwiches and plates.
  • Step 2
This could be canned using a water bath canner. I have never had enough left over to can, but I am sure it could be done by processing it as long as you would tomato sauce.
