  • 10 lb
    ripe tomatoes
  • 1/2
    large onion, chopped
  • 1/2
    bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 c
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 2 Tbsp
    minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 2 Tbsp
  • 1/4 c
    red wine vinegar
  • 12 oz
    tomato paste

How to Make Homemade Spaghetti Sauce for Canning


  1. Blanch tomatoes in boiling water for 1 min. immediately submerge in ice water bath. Peel off skins of tomatoes. Remove seeds.
  2. Saute Onion and pepper in oil until tender and onions are translucent.
  3. Add tomatoes. Cook in large pot on stove until tomatoes are soft and mushy. Add tomato paste and mash to desired chunckiness.
  4. Add spices and boil to desired consistency.
  5. Freeze or can in pressure canner for later use. May be used immediately if desired.
