Its tasty and my family loves it. I add extra garlic because we like it garlicy but here is the original recipe as it was given to me.

  • 1 lb
    hamburger or italian sausage
  • 1 c
    chopped onion
  • 6 clove
    garlic, chopped
  • 48 oz
    tomato juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    basil, dried
  • 1/2 tsp
    thyme, dried
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 6 oz
    tomato paste

How to Make Homemade Spaghetti Sauce


  1. Sautee garlic and onion in olive oil in large pot.
  2. Add meat, brown and then drain.
  3. Add the tomato juice, tomato paste, oregano, salt, thyme and brown sugar.
  4. Bring to boil then reduce to a simmer for 2 to 3 hours. Taste, if its too sour add a little more brown sugar.
