Usually, I serve this on a bed of spaghetti. Slight variations of this sauce make it perfect for lasagne.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces can tomato paste
  • 16 ounces diced, stewed, tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced bellpepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • - water
  • 1 pound lean hamburger, cooked and drained
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper (omit for lasagne)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (omit for lasagne)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

How To Make homemade italian sauce

  • Step 1
    Allow hamburger to cook in large chunks.
  • Step 2
    Saute onion and pepper in oil. Add hamburger and remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then turn down heat and simmer 25-30 minutes, adding 1/4 cup more water if necessary. Sauce should be thick.
  • Step 3
    Serve on pasta (or use in lasagna.)
