This is a great chili oil to add to any Asian dish.

  • 5 Tbsp
    crushed sichuan chili flakes
  • 1 Tbsp
    chinese 5 spice powder
  • 3 Tbsp
    toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp
    ground sichuan powder
  • 2
    whole star anise
  • 2
    bay leaves
  • 1 c
    vegetable oil

How to Make Homemade Chili Oil


  1. Place the chili flakes, five spice powder, sesame seeds, star anise, ground Sichuan peppercorns and bay leaves in a metal container. Set aside.
  2. Place oil over heat and heat until it reaches 370 degrees. Carefully pour over the spices. They will bubble a bit. Stir with metal spoon. Let cool then remove the star anise and bay leaves. Can be stored up to 6 months in fridge.
