This is a great chili oil to add to any Asian dish.

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons crushed sichuan chili flakes
  • 1 tablespoon chinese 5 spice powder
  • 3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon ground sichuan powder
  • 2 - whole star anise
  • 2 - bay leaves
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

How To Make homemade chili oil

  • Step 1
    Place the chili flakes, five spice powder, sesame seeds, star anise, ground Sichuan peppercorns and bay leaves in a metal container. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    Place oil over heat and heat until it reaches 370 degrees. Carefully pour over the spices. They will bubble a bit. Stir with metal spoon. Let cool then remove the star anise and bay leaves. Can be stored up to 6 months in fridge.
